Fall 2025 Auditions

Hello! We're so glad you're interested in auditioning for Drawn to Scale this Fall 🎀

Please fill out our audition form as soon as you can after deciding to audition, as we'd like to gather as much information about our auditionees before their preliminary round as soon as possible. Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of music does Drawn to Scale perform?

+

We perform a wide range of music that depends on whatever the current group iteration is vibing with, since we arrange all of our own stuff! From pop, R&B, and rock to jazz, alternative, and every genre of indie music.

We enjoy performing anything that can display a high caliber of musicianship, whether it be a soulful YEBBA ballad or Bruno Mars' newest top hit.

What is the DTS time commitment like?

+

We hold two 3-hour rehearsals per week (6 hours total).

Occasionally, we may add an extra 1–3 hour rehearsal before major performances (like ICCA, gigs, or our semester concert), but we always survey everyone's availability in advance.

We're all students here, so communication and flexibility are key. Your academics and well-being come first!

What do you look for in auditions?

+

We're looking for people who love to sing and want to join us in our artistic pursuits! Specifically, we're looking for:

  • Strong musical ability β€” pitch accuracy, rhythm, and musicality
  • The ability to blend with our current members' voices
  • Receptiveness to constructive feedback & willingness to grow
  • Commitment and genuine enthusiasm for singing or vocal percussion

Do I need previous a cappella or choral experience?

+

Not at all!

While some musical background is helpful, many of our members joined without any prior a cappella, choral, or performance experience. We genuinely care more about your potential, willingness to learn, and excitement to be part of the group.

What should I sing for my audition?

+

Just one verse and one chorus. 1–2 minutes max. A cappella (just your voice!).

Pick something that feels good to sing and highlights your vocal strengths. Choose a song in your range (but feel free to show off a clean, controlled range if you've got one), and most importantly, choose something you really love singing.

Still can't choose? See what you naturally start singing in the shower with no music.

Can I audition for vocal percussion (beatboxing) without singing experience?

+

Absolutely!

Beatboxing experience is a plus, but we're mainly looking for strong rhythm, musical intuition, and a willingness to learn. TRUST YOURSELF β€” some of the best VPs we've heard started in their respective groups with zero experience.

You'll still be asked to do vocal warm-ups so we can hear your ear and see if you're comfortable joining in on backing vocals when needed.

What voice parts are you looking for this semester? How many open spots?

+

This semester (Fall 2025), we are looking for ALL voice parts and vocal percussionists!

That means wherever your voice range fits, we have an open spot for it! This need changes semester to semester depending on our balance and which members have graduated.

If you're unsure where you fit (soprano, mezzo, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, vocal percussion), don't worry β€” we'll help figure that out through your audition.

Can I audition if I'm a grad student or transfer student?

+

Absolutely!

We welcome students of all years β€” including transfers, graduate students, first-years, and even non-students. DTS has had several grad/transfer student members over the years.

When will I hear back about callbacks/results?

+

Group Callback invitations will be released the morning of Saturday, September 6th (day before Callbacks).

Final decisions from the Solo Callback are shared within ~24–48 hours after callback weekend.

Everyone will receive a notification of their audition status, regardless of the outcome.
